Sails Profile
Mainsail, Genoa, Spinnaker and Gennaker - from cruising to high-tech racing
DG Marine proudly supplies to Australia sails manufactured by one of the largest sailmakers in the world, Rolly Tasker Sails, a company with Australian origins, presently based in Thailand. Throughout its 48 year history, design and production processes have been ceaselessly reviewed and developed, and the results, today, are tangible: in the cloths used, in the construction techniques, and in the quality of finish. Each sail supplied constitutes a veritable demonstration of a wealth of experience in sailmaking. Where state of the art laser and computer technologies ensure accuracy and consistency, the detailing remains carefully executed by hand, only to be subjected to thorough inspections, guaranteeing the properties of each finished sail. It is therefore to be noted that, in terms of quality, DG Marine operates in the higher segment of the market. Hence we encourage your comparing our prices and level of service with colleagues operating not merely in the same sphere, but on the same level.
Sceptical about sails from Asia? If you are sceptical, it is well to consider that all sailmakers use cloth made by the same manufacturers. And sail fittings, similarly, tend to come from a limited number of suppliers. Moreover, modern sail manufacturers, regardless of where they are based, use comparable design software, plotters and laser cutters. Genuine differences, are to be found in business practices - from ethics to flexibility, in the quality of finish, in the level of service offered, and in marketing strategy. When it comes to each of these factors, DG Marine persists in demonstrating that no longer need one bear 'traditional' prices for having premium quality sails made to specification.
With DG Marine sails may be customised to a high degree. It is only to assist you in making sound basic choices that we chose to distinguish the following categories:
Economy sails.
Suitable for dinghies and day sailors up to around 28 ft. Crosscut only in quality Dacron cloth, featuring relatively lightweight materials and pne row 3 step stitching.
Coastal cruising sails.
Specifically developed for cruising yachts of up to around 36 ft. Best described as no-nonsense sails with good trim facilities - complete, yet without concessions to quality. They make an excellent choice for sailors requesting both easy handling and sailing pleasure. Manufactured wholly from first-class Dacron cloth, their sturdy finish guarantees great durability.
Off-shore/racing sails.
The very best in Dacron technology creating exceptional form stability and durability. Whether cruising or racing, performance impresses. Equally well suited to longer-distance passage-making due to their blend of power, and endurance. For yachts more than 36 ft we recommend this most resilient Off-shore technology.
High performance cruising sails.
For cruisers and racers who wish to achieve and experience their boat's full potential. Configured to achieve maximum shape stability. In comparison with Dacron technology these cruising laminate sails function optimally throughout a wider wind range. Extensive trim facilities help maximise working range. Cloths supplied include Alumashield (Dimension), DIAX (Bainbridge), and comparable cloths by Contender and Challenge. Tri-radial cut is the preferred design.
